Chelsea came into my life just over two years ago and has been a true blessing to both me and my family ever since. When she’s not humping my leg or bringing the corpses of small animals into my bed, she’s actually kind of adorable. Spoiled, yes, but adorable.
Before Chelsea was with me, she had a rough go at things. As a stray puppy, she was attacked on the street by a dog that left her with numerous scars, including the one on her left eye. Fortunately, the owner of the dog who attacked Chelsea was kind enough to bring her to the vet for treatment.
Chelsea was then adopted by the father of one of the vets who helped treat her. He named her and homed her for about a year, but during that time Chelsea was attacked several times by the dog he already had. It gets better though.
While this was all going on with Chelsea, I was grieving over the death of my father and struggling with PTSD. Perfect time to get a dog, right? That’s what I thought, and just a few weeks after I began my search, I found Chelsea on Craigslist. Her previous owner was putting her up for adoption since she didn’t get along with his other dog.
Chelsea came to me with high spirits and fresh scars from her last traumatic encounter, and we clicked instantly. She shares my bed, my food, and even my shoes, which she makes her own by chewing them up and putting them in her toy basket. She cleans my feet with her tongue and I clean her shit with a pooper scooper. We’re a match made in heaven!
Now Chelsea joins me on the road regularly, loving the journey and hating the car ride.
